Fred Dortort, Terry Thompson Alocasias (Buy)
ABSTRACT: A locasia G. Don is a genus of east Asian aroids that contains a number of species of considerable horticultural interest. Members of the genus range from India to Taiwan and New Guinea, but the center of distribution is the Malay peninsula and the Indonesian and Philippine archipelagoes. Alocasia is closely related to the asian Xenophya and Colocasia and to the American genera Xanthosoma and Caladium.

Fred Dortort In the forests of Costa Rica (Buy)
ABSTRACT: Not long ago we had the opportunity to travel in Costa Rica for several weeks. We wanted to observe various tropical plants in their habitats, and we hoped that Costa Rica would be a good choice for our project. Aroids were one of the main groups we were looking for, and we found a large number of them.

Fred Dortort Aroids in Costa Rican Gardens (Buy)
ABSTRACT: During our trip to Costa Rica (see Vol. 3, No.2) we visited some local gardens in conjunction with our ventures into the native forest. We spent some time in two of the botanical gardens, the Jardin Lankester and Las Cruces Tropical Botanical Garden, as well as some private gardens. Both of the botanical gardens have good collections of aroids along with many other tropical plants, and their natural and quasi-natural settings enable many of the aroids to grow to sizes that we rarely see in plants cultivated in containers.
