Subject : Re: [Aroid-l] Alocasia X amazonica?

Dear Marcus,

Greetings!
As Marek says, Alocasia X 'Amazonica' is a hybrid. One parent is A.
sanderiana, and Marek says the other was A. longiloba. One thing for
certain, it was created MANY years ago in Miami, Florida by a gentleman who
used to be a mail-man, he loved aroids and he owned a plant Nursery which he
named 'Amazon Nursery', he then named the hybrid in honor of his plant
nursery. John Banta of Alva, Florida knew this gentleman and can suppy his
name and perhaps confirm the parentage of this popular plant to us.
Pete Boyce may be able to ID the Raphidophora for you if he is on line.
Good Growing,

Julius
