  Hydroculture?
From: "E. George Oeser" <george at oeser.net> on 1998.05.30 at 04:25:35(2208)
Hello,
My name is George Oeser and this is my first post to the list thought I
have enjoyed reading it for the past few days.
My question concerns using hydroculture pots to grow aroids. I currently
have a very small colletcion, 1 Alocasia plumbae, 1 Alocasia "Hilo Beauty",
and a Xanthosoma Violacae which I just recieved today. All of these plants
were small and originally grown hydroponicly, or at least it seems that
they were since they were all rooted in rockwool, and so I simply
transfered them over to Luwassa hydroculture pots when I received them. So
far they seem to be doing quite well and the 2 Alocasias are growing quite
quickly. What I am wondering is if anyone else has used this method for
these plants before, and if so how do you handel watering? SHould I keep
the water at the normal level or raise it higher since these plants all
seem to appreciate fairly moist soils when grown normally? Also do they
nutrients supplied by Luwassa seem adaquate for these plants or would
something else work better?
1 other question, I am thinking of getting a few Amorphophallus to try,
probably Amorphophallus konjac since I have read they might actulay be
hardy in the area where I live, but I know nothing of their cultural
requirements, any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
E. George Oeser
