Hand Pollination of Amorphophallus paeoniifolius

On the third day of the inflorescence opening, the pollen dehisced by extrusion in strands. The plastic film wrap and moist paper towel put in place the previous day to promote a high humidity environment around the spadix for optimum pollen germination has been removed.

This close-up clearly shows the extruded pollen strands characteristic of this species as well as others. Note how neatly the foil collar has caught the pollen for easy collection.
