Marek,

You are little too literal in interpreting the code =E2=80=93 there areno restrictions on accents or other diacritical marks, it is only different alphabetscripts (such as Cyrillic script) which needs to be transliterated. Don=E2=80=99tfrighten off our friends in France who are only alittle bit strange! I am British , myself, as you probably know, so my spellingis a little wonky too.

Hello,

Andit's time to tell everybody that cultivar names can consist only ofletters from the Latin alphabet.

So wesay goodbye to names with =C4=9B=C5=99=C3=BD=C3=A1=C3=AD=C3=A9=C3=B6=C3=A4=C3=BC=C3=A5=C4=85=C5=9B=C4=87=C4=99=C3=B3=C5=84 etc. We'll "flatten" theseletters to abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz.

Best,

Marek

Subject: [Aroid-l]Cultivar registration - the wraps are off

Greetings,

It is time to get moving on this. Our application forhas been approved by the International Cultivar Registration Authority, and nowwe have to perform.

Cultivar registration in a few words.

WHY: I want to see it happen so that cultivar namesare a matter of record (and also eventually get tied to a reference siteavailable to all, with descriptions and images.

WHEN: The time to start is now =E2=80=93 RIGHT NOW

WHERE:  There is a great, simple form to applyfor registration of a name on Aroid-l in the cultivar section

WHAT:   Any plant that seems significantlydifferent and holds the difference when propagated vegetatively

HOW:  The cultivar name, or epithet, is submittedon the application for registration. It must be in a non-latinised form, andmust sooner or later be published in print form associated with a descriptionand preferably an image.

The epithet is then established by this publication. If the application is approved, but the epithet has not otherwise beenestablished, the publication requirement will be met by a suitable entry in Aroideana.  Registration will thenfollow and lists of registered names will be published in hard-copy from timeto time, and will also be displayed on the website.  Simple, right?

WHO: You, of course. This is only effective if thebreeders and propagators support it.

Right now, I need help from volunteers familiar with agenus who can check the lists already available on Aroid-l, add any missingnames, and give me the place and date of publication of any names that you cantrace.

We are ready to go. Please be part of this.

Derek
