A few of the very tricky species, notably Bakoa=C2=A0and some of the smallest Bucephalandra=C2=A0are in pure medium-grade (3 mm) Perlte. The robust species, such as the colonial Schismatoglottis=C2=A0and the large-growing=C2=A0Homalomena=C2=A0are in a mineral soil comprising 3 parts locally-sourced red volcanic soil (pH ca 4.5) and 1 part coarse washed river sand. We favour plastic pots of the Perlite and =C2=A0sphagnum cultures and unglazed fired terracotta for the mineral soil plants.
