Title: Quail A. titanum in the news

There is a news story with a photo on CNN.com titled:

The nose knows: 'Stinkiest' flower on display
One visitor's response: 'Eeeeeewwwwwwwwwww'

http://www.cnn.com/2002/TECH/science/07/17/giant.stinky.flower.ap/index.html

The latest update from Quail at 760-436-3036 x6 says "The bloom of the corpse flower is in decline, however the flower has not collapsed. The corpse flower is still very interesting so please come and see."

This story came up this morning in the MSNBC news briefs broadcast to my
Skytel pager. A. titanum is officially a 21st-century national phenom!

Just a quick note less we forget---all or most of these A. titanum (and
other rarities like A. gigas that has just finished blooming at Fairchild
Tropical Gardens in Miami with nary a 'wimper' from the press) are the
direct result of the efforts of the late Dr. James (Jim) Simon who collected
the seed in the wilds of Asia.
May his memory live on, he did not live long enough to see and enjoy the
fruits of his labor.
