  bar coding of plant collections
From: Adam Black <epiphyte1 at earthlink.net> on 2007.05.13 at 06:28:42(15670)
I would be interested in talking to anyone who has experience with data
management of living collections using bar coding. I know I have seen
bar codes on plant tags at several botanical gardens, so I figure
someone here might be able to help me. Please contact me
off-list.

Thanks!

well, my company can create a system (tied to
databases and even web-enabled) using RFID tags.
we're also involved in creating sensor motes that you
can scatter around your property to remotely monitor
(temperature, humidity, ground wetness, etc) and manage
your living plant collections.

This is a good idea. I thought about introducing
four letter codes to specify taxons (family, genus, species,
variety(subpecies,cultivar) e.g ARAC-ANTH-ANDR-CHMP for Anthurium andreanum
'Champion'. What do you think about this?
