Dear All,

Adding to the recent discussion of Alocasia Amazonica

including Black Polly I have found something I haven't yet

encountered:

Hello Alison,

It may be a difference only in lighting conditions.

Many Alocasia plants when they are cultivated under strong light,

the underside of the leaves becomes purple or brown and the leaves look darker.

'Polly' has one of the darkest leaves from cultivated Alocasia plants,

just like A. reginula known in trade as A. 'Black Velvet'

Hi Marek,

The ones I have cultivated for some time now are the

same as the first link below and as described in my post.

The one in the nursery being sold as 'Black Polly' looks

completely different - like a dark lauterbachii.

First time I am seeing that. I'll go by and try to get a

photo.

Alison:

Please delineate what the initials "EA" stand for. Is that a store name or a country abbreviation or something else altogether?

Dearest Denis,

My sincere apologies to you and all!

EA = Exotic Angel aka Hermann Englemann.

I am so sorry, it is a habit and I just forgot that not

everyone refers to them often enough to use that.

I realize that only now will my post make more sense.

Hi Denis,

Every Lowe's, most Walmarts, grocery stores, almost any

outlet that sells plants is an Exotic Angel store.

My remark is aimed at my finding yet another plant with the

name 'Black Polly' - this one is not from a mammoth grower

like Englemann, but it had to originate somewhere. It is now at

a nursery that does not sell Englemann plants.

I'm just surprised that there is another being marketed as same

name.

Hi Denis,

You can find Exotic Angel in Lowe's, Home Depot... in the "inside" greenhouses. I wish we had a store called Herman's Monster Foliage - OH YEAH! I love monster foliage!

Merry Christmas everyone! May the Blessings of Christ be with each of you and your families & friends.
