Oversized Amorphophallus!!!

Many of you know that the Conservatory was the place where Jim Symon was first introduced to plants by his grandparents. This introduction has produced waves that have truly been felt 'round the world.' We have all benefited from this 'plant' introduction. I have been working with the Conservatory for two years to establish a "JAMES R. SYMON, M.D. AMORPHOPHALLUS COLLECTION". This has finally been accomplished. This winter, when my plants go dormant, I will be sending the Conservatory quite a numbver of plants for this collection. If you would like to donate Amorphophallus to this collection... this is the perfect solution for plants that 'get too big'. You may send them to the personal attention of: Mr. John Raffetto Garfield Park Conservatory 300 N. Central Park Ave. Chicago, ILL 60624 Please make a note in the shipment to John of what you are sending, any collection data that you might have and that the tuber is for the "James R. Symon, M. D. Collection". It is, of course, better to send dormant plants. The Conservatory has agreed to place a plaque in the growing collection where the public can see it and an announcement in the program booklets that are distributed, stating that this is "The James R. Symon Amorphophallus Collection." In the program booklet there will be a paragraph regarding Jim's background and love for the genus. I have discussed this 'Collection' idea with Jim's family and some of his friends. They all agree that this will accomplish several goals that were of high priority to Jim: the preservation of the genera and specifically some of the endangered species. The public will also be able to enjoy this wonderful and unusual Aroid that we, as plant lovers, admire so much.
