[Aroid-l] Colocasia 'Coffee Cups' vs. the 'Big Dipper'
From: "Alan Galloway" alan_galloway at bellsouth.net> on 2005.07.26 at 17:12:47(13236)
A fellow aroid grower stopped by yesterday afternoon and brought by a leaf
of what he puchased on Ebay as Colocasia 'Coffee Cups'. He was concerned
that the 'cup' was not cupping enough and that the top of the leaf had too
much
of a matt finish.

Sure enough, what he had purchased as C. 'Coffee Cups', was NOT 'Coffee
Cups'
I happened to have a Colocasia 'Big Dipper' in my garden and that is what he
actually
had obtained from his winning Ebay bid.

The seller may not have known any difference.

The real Colocasia 'Coffee Cups' has a shiney, or glossy finish on the top
side of the
leaf, and the cupping is quite pronounced on mature plants. So, for those
that
are puchasing 'Coffee Cups', try to purchase one where you can actually see
the
plant in person, or ask the seller for a clear picture showing the top side
of the
leaf.
