Blooming Amorphophallus gigas at FTG 8/2/2000
From: "FTG Conservatory, Craig Allen" conserv at netrox.net> on 2000.08.02 at 15:59:47(5205)
What a beautiful tropical morning at Fairchild tropical Garden. This morning
I got out the tape to start measuring the two beautiful Amorphophallus gigas
coming into bloom at the Conservatory. They have really grown since
yesterday morning. A week ago there was almost nothing there.

Plant 941491C is now 55 inches tall. It is very stocky peduncle at this
point
Plant 941491E is now 75 inches tall. The peduncle of this plant is very
slender. The spadix was beginning to show yesterday evening.

I can hardly wait for the delightful odor that only a buzzard or a fly could
love. Last year the plants remained in bloom for almost a week.
