Anchomanes: African Giants of the Aroid World

Anchomanes is a genus of tuberous perennial herbs in the Araceae family native to tropical Africa, comprising robust plants with large solitary leaves and imposing inflorescences that often precede foliage.  These herbs are distinguished by their spiny petioles and eye-like tuberous rhizomes, features that set them apart from related genera such as Dracontium and Amorphophallus.
