Taxonomy & Classification

  • Genus: Anthurium
  • Botanical Background: Described by Thomas B. Croat in 2022 (Aroideana 45(2): 185), the holotype was collected by McPherson (no. 9671)

Natural Habitat & Distribution

  • Geographical Range: Known only from the single type collection and its broader distribution remains undocumented
  • Environment: The holotype originated from a moist tropical forest understory, typical of many Porphyrochitonium species

Morphological Characteristics

Leaves

  • Leaf blades are very small, ovate‑cordate
  • Held on short petioles
  • Setting this apart from larger congeners

Inflorescence (Spadix & Spathe)

  • Inflorescence bears a slender spadix subtended by a small spathe
  • Detailed measurements and illustrations are provided in Figure 65 of the original description

Growth Habit

  • Exhibits a terrestrial to weakly epiphytic habit
  • Arising from a short rhizome as seen in related sect. Porphyrochitonium taxa

Cultivation & Care

Light Requirements

  • Bright, indirect light to mimic filtered understory conditions

Watering & Humidity

  • Allow the growing medium to dry slightly between waterings

  • Maintain humidity above 60 percent

Soil & Potting Mix

  • Use a well‑draining mix of orchid bark and peat‑based media for good root aeration

Temperature & Fertilizer

  • Keep temperatures between 18 and 27 °C 
  • Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every two to four weeks during active growth

Propagation Methods

Division and Cuttings

  • Propagate by dividing the rhizome or by stem cuttings containing at least one node.

  • May be sown fresh in a warm, humid environment; viability can be short.
