From: Ken Mosher <ken at spatulacity.com> on 2011.01.12 at 19:22:00 To the poster who did not take the time to provide a name: The species you mentioned have often been left out of soil even when blooming and do not strictly require it.  However, Wilbert Hetterscheid posted not too long ago that no Amorphophallus should be allowed to bloom out of soil.  He said that many times they will put out some roots when blooming that can take in moisture.  Wilbert is much more knowledgeable than I am so I won't elaborate any more than this.
