  Update on Joep Moonen
From: ExoticRainforest <Steve at exoticrainforest.com> on 2009.01.24 at 16:08:25(18965)
Many of you know, or at least knowof, Joep Moonen in French Guiana. Joep (yupe) corresponds with severalof us including Julius and Leland all the time and has been honored tohave a number of aroids named in his honor including Anthuriummoonenii, "Philodendron joepii" and others. As I explained inthe early summer Joep suffered a stroke which affected the right sideof his body but he has been recovering from that horrible incident. Heis again leading tours into the rain forest and walks a great deal aswell as riding his bike again. But to make the situation worse Joepfell victim to malaria a few months back and lost a great deal ofweight as a result. He wrote earlier this week to tell me he washaving a scheduled surgery (the third one for the same ailment) midweek this past week and his wife Marijke wrote yesterday to tell us heis recovering and should be home shortly. Since Joep is a close friendand very important to many of the members of the International AroidSociety I wanted to keep you up to date. If you have his email addressI'm sure he'd appreciate hearing from you.

If you have ever considered making a trip to a rain forest to see theplants and animals in the wild Joep is a great guide! Dr. Croat callshim his "eyes and ears in the forest". If you'd like information onhis trips drop me a private note and I'll give you his address.
