It is time to get moving on this. Our application forhas been approved by the International Cultivar Registration Authority, and nowwe have to perform.
Cultivar registration in a few words.
WHY: I want to see it happen so that cultivar names are a matter ofrecord (and also eventually get tied to a reference site available to all, withdescriptions and images.
WHEN: The time to start is now – RIGHT NOW
WHERE: There is a great, simple form to apply for registration of aname on Aroid-l in the cultivar section
WHAT: Any plant that seems significantly different and holds thedifference when propagated vegetatively
HOW: The cultivar name, or epithet, is submitted on the applicationfor registration. It must be in a non-latinised form, and must sooner or laterbe published in print form associated with a description and preferably animage.
The epithet is then established by this publication. If the applicationis approved, but the epithet has not otherwise been established, thepublication requirement will be met by a suitable entry in Aroideana. Registration will then followand lists of registered names will be published in hard-copy from time to time, and will also be displayed on the website. Simple, right?
WHO: You, of course. This is only effective if the breeders andpropagators support it.
Right now, I need help from volunteers familiar with a genus who cancheck the lists already available on Aroid-l, add any missing names, and giveme the place and date of publication of any names that you can trace.
We are ready to go. Please be part of this.
Derek
