Xanthosoma violaceum

I received this plant from R. Mansell. It was somewhat reluctant to start growing, but recently it seems to be finally taking off. It is rather susceptible to spider mite infection.

General habit of the plant. It is growing here in a 1 gallon pot. The frst couple of leaves were really tiny...
Closeup of the first reasonably-sized leaf it grew.
About a year later, the leaves have more angular shapes, as the plant matures
The stems and the backs of the leaves justify the plant's name...
Leaf shape has changed quite a bit as the plant has grown
