A. Blades deeply divided, either deeply pinnately lobed, or deeply 3-lobed to tri-sect............................KEY 1

A. Blades not deeply divided, at most with the margins merely sinuate, either cordate, subcordate, oblong, elliptic or oblanceolate, the lateral margins of the anterior lobe sometimes deeply concave, but not to such an extent that the blade looks decidedly 3-lobed (blades naturally splitting into irregular segments in P. findens).

B. Blades acute, obtuse or truncate at base or sometimes weakly cordulate or subcordate but with the posterior lobes only 1/4 as long as the anterior lobe or less.............................................KEY 2.

B. Blades cordate, sagittate, or hastate at base, the posterior lobes usually more than 1/4 as long as the anterior lobes ......................................C.

C. Cataphylls persistent on stem, either intact or as fibrous remains.....................................KEY 3.

C. Cataphylls deciduous, only the uppermost cataphyll persisting (or sometimes a 2nd or 3rd) but with most of the cataphylls associated with the attached petioles missing.....................................KEY 4.
