[Aroid-l] I.D.`ing the Anthurium from Jared
From: <ju-bo at msn.com> on 2009.01.04 at 12:51:57
Dear All=2C

Please DON`T take my suggestion a ''final'' solution. =3B =3B I usually try to stay out of these discussions on I.D.`ing store-bought plants=2C but this one is interesting now that I have seen a photo. =3B It is not a ''birds nest" type=2C and is NOT in my opinion a pure species. =3B The up-turned posterior lobes of the leaves which create the impression of a ''cup"" are NOT like A. fausto.=2C which has a HUGE=2C almost flat cordate leaf=2C VERY 'hard-textured'. =3B Steve will have photos on his site of a pure A. faustomir. =3B
I`d like to see a photo of an inflorescence on this (Jared`s) plant=2C as the bloom on a pure A. fausto. is large=2C and has a cup-shaped large spathe which spreads over the spadix like a roof=2C and a very short peduncle/stem. =3B =3B Jared`s plant might exibit a different spathe/peduncle which may offer hints as to the plant`s possibly mixed parentage.

>=3B>=3BThis is the photo sent to me when I purchased the plant. I could take another and send it=2C but I won't have a chance until Monday or Tuesday.

The leaves are NOT glossy. They quickly turn coriaceous=2C it is fairly large (I assume a bird's nest Anth.).

I will record more specific specs when I have the plant in front of me. This is turning out to be quite the challenge to ID.
