Julius Boos gave me one of the two original plants he used in his study with Dr. Croat and Dr. Simon Mayo to describe Philodendron xanadu Croat, Mayo and Boos to science.  You are describing the exact way that plant is growing  which is very normal for a Meconostigma Philodendron.

My friend Emily Colletti who cares for the entire Missouri Botanical Garden aroid collection re-pots their collection on a regularly defined schedule.  The soil should be fast draining and include amendments including good soil, peat moss, bark such as orchid bark, granulated charcoal, Perlite and almost any plant you can turn into compost.  Emily also includes cedar mulch in her mixture.

Keep the soil evenly moist but no harm will be done to this species if allowed to dry from time to time.
