[Aroid-l] IAS newsletter Vol. 33, Number 2 June 2011 and Steve Lucas

June 2011 IAS Newsletter

Unfortunately here in the temperate UK two months between now and May 15th will be truly insufficient to complete any article on the growth of any tropical plants.

My Remusatia and Typhonodorum - my subject matter for my next submissions to the IAS - are still snugly housed in the heated propagator in my hallway, where the Typhonodorum are some foot high plus seedlings and the Remusatia are last years dormant tubers just about being encouraged into regrowth.

These plants, certainly the Typhonodorums will not be risked outside until at least June - our first true summer month. But hopefully come the end of the year I will have some interesting documentation on these rarer species for submission. I believe Typhonodorum due to its true scarcity merits maybe even a place in the next Aroidana.

Steve Lucas

Carla is absolutely right, Steve Lucas was a truly inspirational figure whose enthusiasm for aroids was nothing short of infectious. In the short space of time I knew him, he made me aspire to move on from Colocasia and Alocasia to some extremely hard to find aroids. The above are certainly part of this group and it will be a pleasure to submit writings on theseplants to the IAS, which was such a big part of Steve's life.

Hello, IAS Members,

Thanks to the work of many people, the first IAS Newsletter, Volume 33,
Number 1, is now available. You have probably already received it in
your email.

Unfortunately another good friend of the IAS has passed away, Steve
Lucas, and he is honored in the Newsletter by several of his close
friends. We all appreciated everything that Steve did for our Society.
Some of the other articles in this issue contain wonderful photos of
aroids and information about growing them. Steve would have enjoyed them
very much as will all of you.

The deadline for submissions to the June IAS Newsletter will be May 15.
Wow, that gives everyone plenty of time to write and send in some
articles!! And don't forget your color photos! We can handle unlimited
photos and text. When writing articles for the Newsletter, please keep
the following in mind: We can only accept separate high resolution
photos in JPEG or TIFF format in addition to the Word document. Articles
that are not in this format or have embedded photos will be returned to
the author(s).

Many thanks and best wishes to you,

Carla Kostelac
