Older offsets on many Alocasias can have a tough skin on them .
To ensure sprouting this skin must be broken carefully =2C no need to remove .
Fresh ones will sprout very fast . The stem offsets like on longiloba seem to sprout very easily .

Dear Sherry=2C
 =3B
It depends on a species. For example Alocasia wentii produces bulblets about 1.5 cm in diameter and very few of them put leaves. The don't die in pots=2C they may =3Bstart to grow =3Beven after 2-3 years.
Bulblets of A. =3Binfernalis =3Bput leaves =3Bvery quickly=2C after a few weeks=2C but later they grow slowly. While A. wentii from a bulblet produces 3-5 leaves a year=2C A. infernalis (from bulblets too)=2C 1-2 leaves.

I read "I think that bulbils smaller than 1cm rarely generate a new plant." posted by Marco about Amorphophallus.
=3B What about the bulblets that form on the stalks/stems of Alocasia? =3B Is there a certain size that's more likely to succeed? =3B If so=2C when =3Bthey fall off the parent plant=2C will they continue to "mature" and eventually sprout?
