  Re: [Aroid-l] Amorphophallus ID please

Bernhard,
I felt sure I was growing or had grown this plant, the photo looked so familiar, although I couldn't think of the name of it.  This morning I realized I had probably seen almost the same photo on ebay, there is a Thai seller that photographs petioles and sells Amorphophallus sp. that way.
I also came across sp. AGA-043, which has red on the petiole, but I don't know it's true name (I'm looking through old photos).
It really doesn't look like paeoniifolius to me.

Michael,
thanks for=0Athe reply.

Actually the plant is not=0A mine,
but belongs to a fellow aroider of our=0AGerman http://www.amorphophallus-forum.de/=0A, post # http://www.amorphophallus-forum.de/viewtopic.php?f=3D22&t=3D1548&sid=3D99672338838cf8fc65c3d7932ebb833b ;you=0Ahave to be registered to see the pics, that's why I posted the pictures=0Adirectly.
He suspected that is not=0Apaeonifolius, maybe due to the variation in the basic colour of the=0Apetiole and in comparison to the paeonifolius he has seen before.

I myself grow two seed raised plants which look=0Aidentical (see attached pic, the big plant in the center) and, I guess,=0Apretty typical for the wild type paeonifolius (rough petiole, glossy=0Aupper leaf surface).

Regarding the=0Aseedling from my fellow aroider - so you would say it fits with the=0Adescribed traits (smooth "stem", bacis petiole colour from=0Agreen to reddish, allways with big white spots) in the variation seen in=0Apaeonifolius?

Any more comments from=0Aothers?

Happy commenting,=0ABernhard.

Why do you say it's not=0Apaeoniifolius ?  note ii ..
some spp. have several different  forms=0Aof coloured stems .
you will have to wait until it flowers before=0Adoubting ..
It could possibly be a hybrid if it was seed .

Amorphophiles,

would somebody recognise the species from the=0Aattached pictures?

The basic colour of=0Athe petiole is variable from green to reddish, but it always has the big=0Awhite spots.

The seeds were bought in=0Aspring via ebay from the seller squeaky-buffalo as paeonifolius, it's=0Aobviously not paeonifolius.
Or could it be the=0Apaeonifolius with the smooth "stem"? (I guess not.....)

Happy id-ing,
Bernhard.
