  Re: [Aroid-l] Zoological Record
From: brian lee <lbmkjm at yahoo.com> on 2011.11.21 at 17:36:05
Dear Aroiders,

Aloha.

I second Christopher's motion that these sources are very helpful.  I love Tropicos and Cate-Araceae.  Botanicus is a gem that I was not aware of.

What I would love to see is the completion of Philodendron subgenus Meconostigma in Cate-Araceae.  The Brazilian endemic species, which comprise the majority, are not included.  Meconostigma is the smallest subgenus in Philodendron.  That is my tiny request.

Aloha,

Leland

Dear Christopher:  There are a couple of sources.  Tropicos has a lot of names and IPNI is another soursce for names. The Gardens Botanicus allows you to see most of the old literature and if there was an image in the original publication you would see that as well.

Those of us who are Zoologists use a search engine called Zoological Record to hunt for animal names and associated citations. This tool has links to the actual journals and the .pdfs if available. Is there as similar tool for botany? I have been using CATE . . .
