  IAS Show and Sale
From: plantnut at macconnect.com (Dewey Fisk) on 1998.09.22 at 01:36:19(2618)
Ever been between a rock and a hard place?

That is the position that the IAS finds itself in this Monday evening. We
have Hurricane Georges that looks like it might be heading our way without
any steering currents to drive it away. It is on a northwest course which
would put it somewhere over Cuba or just south of Miami. Now, even if the
eye of Hurricane Georges did not pass near Miami, we would still get
torrential rains and lots of high winds. This would not be condusive for a
Plant Show.

The decision regarding the IAS Show and Sale has been taken out of our hands.

Fairchild Tropical Garden is *closed* from this afternoon -- Wednesday --
to Sunday afternoon. Thus, no Show and Sale....

We WERE waiting to see what track Georges would take before making a
decision. Fairchild made it for us.

I regret that those of you who have made Reservations on Airlines will
probably have to take a penalty. I suggest that you contact your Airline,
Tell them that Miami is under a Hurricane watch and that the event that you
planned to attend is cancelled. Some of the Airlines will probably make an
exception to the penalty.

It looks like, at this hour on Wednesday morning, the track of Georges will
skirt the north coast of Cuba and Miami will miss the worst part, however,
we plan of getting lots of rain, up to 10 or more inches.

The Show and Sale has been tentatively rescheduled for the weekend of
October 31 and November 1. The Heliconia Society has a Show scheduled for
that weekend but since most are members of both, there will be a spirit of
cooperation... We will keep you posted.

If there is anything that I can do to help you in any situation you may
find yourself..., please contact me (954) 434-2591, FAX (954) 680-0305 or
e-mail at:
Regards,
Dewey

> Hi!

Sorry that the IAS Show and Sale has been bpostponed .I just wanted to inform
everone on the the list that Continental Airlines has been most helpful by
offering changes with no penalty or a full refund.

Thank you for this information... There is a strong possibility that the
Airport will be closed and locked down... Therefore, folks with tickets
could not fly in anyway.... Glad to know that Continental is one of the
'Good Guys'.
