  Zamioculcus zamiifolia
From: MJ Hatfield oneota at ames.net> on 1999.10.22 at 23:59:24(3780)
Can any of you tell me about the horticulture of Zamioculcus zamiifolia?
The leaves of mine are curling. I think I might have the wrong soil mix
or am keeping it too moist.

Thanks.

Dear MJ,
The plant grows in tropical and subtropical S.W. Africa, so a well-draining
sandy 'jungle mix' should be fine! Don`t know what may cause the leaves to
curl, maybe a cold draft?? Don`t over-water?? It grows like a weed here
in S. Florida where ever I`ve seen it, over flows the 3 gal pots in the
collections I`ve seen (I don`t grow it).
Cheers and good luck,
Julius

I'd say I have them in too rich a soil mix and am watering them too
much. I tend to do that. In my mind, rich soil and water should make
everything grow. Even if I know it doesn't.

Speaking of plants in need of water, I sure could use water loving
plants for my garden pool here in Charlotte NC area other than elephant
ears.

MJ,
I have mine in pots with promix, but keep the pots in at least an inch to
three inches of water all the time. The light is fairly low. Haven't had
any problems with them all (though the Gonotropus in the same water trough
are dying back this time of year .)
