"Variegated" Amorphophallus mulleri

From: Don Burns donburns at macconnect.com> on 2000.05.30 at 03:09:44(4650)
Wilbert and others,
I received several messages about this plant and most suspected a virus of
some kind. After looking closely at the leaf it seems to fit Wilbert's
description.
I have put two photos on my website for those of you who are interested.
The images are not compressed so loading will take a few seconds. Oh yes,
Wilbert, a bulbil is forming. The is not a Pseudodracontium by any stretch
of the imagination. Point your browsers at:
http://www.macconnect.com/~donburns/varamorph1.jpg
and
http://www.macconnect.com/~donburns/varamorph2.jpg
I have isolated the plant from the others and will probably destroy it.

Dear Don,
Looked at the pics and I am sorry to say that this must be a virus.
Especially the deformed tissues associated with the variegation indicate
this. I have had a similar viral attack in one of my A. atroviridis, that
mysteriously was gone next season, and then re-appeared again but in a
milder expression. Beats me how them viruses work. They are not from this
planet anyway.............
And yes, this is indeed a muelleri.
Cheers,
Wilbert
