Intergeneric Hybrids

Pete,
What about to cross Lemna (any species) and Amorphophallus titanum? I
don't know about chromosomal compatibility, but they are really close
relatives (see French's work on restriction sites). The main question to ask
is: Will this thing still float on the water surface during its flowering?
Sorry guys, I couldn't resist... :o)
Cheers,
Eduardo.

You are setting yourself to be a floating DUCKweed.

Some large genera can be split into smaller groups and many seemingly diverse
genera are more closely related than we think, or at least member species
within
them. Witness the orchid Oncidium/Odontoglossum/Miltonia complex. All in all
taxonomy is a great deal an artificial system.
