Dear aroiders,
would someone know a source for Tacca spec. seeds?
www.sunshine-seeds.de ( www.sunshine-seeds.com ) has them, but I would like to
know other sources as well.
Thanks in advance,
Bernhard.

Hello Bernhard,
Thompson and Morgan carries Tacca chantrieri seeds:

I've obtained seeds from several sources, but I've always had trouble with
germination. Even in-vitro, the seeds appear to have a low germination rate
and a long dormancy. I have heard that truly fresh seed ( not dried out )
germinates quite readily, however.

Dear Bernard and Albert,
I believe that our own Plantnut (Dewey) has several species of Tacca for
sale, and I believe you`d be much better off purchasing tubers or small
plants from him, seeds ot Tacca can be difficult if not VERY fresly
collected.
Cheers,
Julius

Hello Albert,
thanks for your reply!
Yes, I think I have trouble with germination as well.
My seeds from T. chantrieri, T.leontopetaloides and T. nivea were sown about 5
weeks ago in humous substrate and held at 20-30 ?C. They do nothing till now.
But maybe it is too early to worry...
How long can germination take with dry seeds?
And what are your experience with germination percentage of dry seeds?
I think the seeds I got were probably not fresh.
Sunshine-seeds claims that the seed is storable for 24 month+ at 4 ?C at least,
what I found rather long for tropical seeds. But I maybe wrong with that.
I would be thankful for any comment.
Good growing,
Bernhard.

Even eBay has some:

&ebaytag1ëayreg&query=Tacca&query2=Tacca&search_option=1&srchdesc=y&exclud
e=&category0=&minPrice=&maxPrice=&ebaytag1code=0&st=0&SortProperty=MetaEndSort
Oops I guess that is kind of long to click on.
http://www.ebay.com then search for Tacca.
Maybe if you can do an internet search, you will find lots. I've seen them
in a lot of places, but didn't make note of them as I too tried them from
seeds and failed.
I did raise marigolds and morning glories from seed this year, but that is
about my only luck with seeds.

I have Tacca chantrieri seeds, some haven't ripened yet but I have had good
luck with them fresh from the pod. I've been waiting for them to burst open
before harvesting. I'd be willing to trade for any most Aroid seeds.
