Possible spam/virus.

Dear Friends,
Today my comp. has been swamped w/ at least 30 spam-type e-mails, all with an attachment deemed unsafe by my comp. All have been deleted without opening. Although none were directly connected or said to be directly from to the aroid-l list, several were purported to come from friends of mine who are members of this list and looked legit., had my comp. not warned me I might have opened them. Two were said to be from the 'postmaster' at hotmail.com, and another that came in a short while ago was said to be from a division of MSN, my carrier!!!!! Something is afoot out there, so look out. Just a heads up.
Good Growing,
Julius

I recieved 4-5 mails from MAILERDEMON today, you know when you send out the
wrong address, they send it back to you, but I didnt even send any email
yesterday from my PC so I didnt open them and deleted them immediately. Julius is
right, something is afoot and being extra careful may prevent ALOT of wasted
time and money. Michael Mattlage

Julius - if you don't mind my asking -- what is your operating system -
mine's XP - I installed the Microsoft patch and put in a firewall -- there's
also a "removal" software that is supposed to help (or remove the problem) -
if you have continued problems - I can refer you to some fixes (I think) - I
am no computer whiz - that's for sure !!!
Good luck,
Harold Beck

Hi
I'm on Windows ME, one of the systems supposedly not affected by the recent
Blaster worm, and have not been inundated with this spam problem - is there
anyone else out there on ME (or am I the only one to ever buy it - usually
the case when it comes to technology; I AM BetaMax man) who HAS received
these emails?
Pete

I had an onslaught of virus-excised emails also, not from aroid-l but
from various astronomical colleagues. I use Linux mostly so no damage here.
On a completely different subject...a good time to check for possible
aroids on Mars is arriving...
On August 27, 2003 at 5:51 a.m. EDT, the planet Mars will be closer to
the Earth than at any time in all of recorded history. At that
moment, the centers of Earth and Mars will be 34,646,418 miles apart.
The last time Mars came this close was in 57,617 B.C. It will not be
this close again until August 28, 2287 A.D. Since the distance
between Mars and the Earth is changing slowly, the prime viewing
will occur anytime between mid-August to mid-September. Mars rises in
the East around sunset...can't miss it!
Clear skies,
Al

Folks...off-topic but when our computer security division sends an alert
they are generally on target...
FYI

A new feature was discovered in the virus called W32/Sobig-F
The virus is extremely complex, and is using a number of techniques
to mask its activities. For more details, please see:
http://www.f-secure.com/news/items/news_2003082200.shtml
At 3:00pmEDT/1:00pm MDT/12:00 MST today and again
on Sunday, all infected systems - quite likely more than a million
worldwide at this point - are programmed to download a new program,
from host systems which are not yet known.
Clear skies,
Al
