  Metrics

In case none of you has heard the story before:

The difference between Canadians and Americans is summed up by their respective responses to going metric. A few years ago both governments decided their citizens should convert. The Canadians did it. The Americans did not.

But living, as I do, on the border here on the US side, I know for a fact that Canadians secretly harbor thinking in the old English system. Their private thoughts are degrees Fahrenheit and pounds. The difference is that the official temperatures in Canada are in Celcius and weights are in kilos; but Canadians have become adept at making the conversions in their heads. As time goes on, however, the younger Canadians will think metric and the old fossils will be eclipsed.

At least metric is not as confusing as
binary. Did you see the A. titanum in Germany with 10 blooms? If
another opens, it will have 11!
