  Philodendron Xanadu--what's going on?
From: Sue Haffner <sue_haffner at csufresno.edu> on 1997.09.04 at 21:46:26(1160)
Philodendron Xanadu has been growing happily here in
the office for several years.
All of a sudden, it is putting out aerial roots that
just won't stop. They seem to grow a couple of inches
overnight.

Sue,
Possibly two things... 1. Maturity (all Philos are epiphytic to one
degree or another) and 2. It might not be getting the nutrition it needs nd
is sending out roots to search... When did you repot and fertilize
last...?

Hi, Dewey, and thanks for the comments.

I divided and repotted the plant a year ago, but
I haven't been fertilizing it. I will have to
divide it again, I can see.

(Kind of a bother, these plants in the office.
I have to sneak my potting supplies in on
the weekend, and put down a tarp in the
back room in order to work.)

I got your philodenron list awhile back--then
my mom had a stroke and I've had to be out of
town a lot this summer, so never got around
to ordering any from you. Have you been able
to send any of your plants or cuttings to
California? Any box labelled "plants" is sure
to be intercepted and inspected.

Good growing,

Sue Haffner
