  Smells on Philodendron
From: Brian Williams <pugturd at alltel.net> on 2007.03.18 at 21:35:21(15432)
It has always interested me on how odd some smells on aroids can be and
how some smell exactly like something I have smelled before. For
instance Typhonium roxburghii smells exactly like this artificial fart
spray LOL. I have to say neither smell like a real fart if so you may
need to visit your doctor soon. It is very interesting how they smell
almost the exact same. It makes me wonder if it is the same chemical
compounds at work. Here is a link to the Fart spray that I believe
smells so similar one you smell it's hard to forget much like the Typhonium.

I asked some time ago if Eduardo, or any of the other contributors familiar
with the group had noticed the different odours from the foliage/stems of
species similar to P. bipinnatifidum and P. selloum. (I chop them up all the
time, trying to keep my garden accessible.) No trace of a fart (as I have
been told this smells, but how would I know?) or licorice ... Anyone?
