  Philo. tortum status ?
From: mickpascall at hotmail.com (Michael Pascall) on 2007.12.05 at 23:20:22(16770)
Saw the fantastic picture of the tortured spike on David Schereberichs site , but the species was listed as P.pinnatilobum . I remember Julius going into this in great detail a few years ago .
The name has not been added to the species list of Philodendrons on the IAS site .

Dear Michael,

The only one who can give us GOOD information on the status of Philodendron tortum will be Dr. Thomas Croat at MOBOT, who I believe is one of its co-authors. Hopefully Tom will see our plea and reply, and the IAS site will be soon updated!

Good Growing,
Julius

Hello Michael,

Indeed you are right ! I thought it was close to Philodendron tortum
but never questioned the id. I was just finding it strange that in
the publication of P. tortum it was not compared to P. pinnatilobum.
But then this later one is a small leaved species with 3 lateral
lobes, quite different from P. tortum. So I have changed the names on
my pictures.

Dear Julius,

Philodendron tortum was published by Maria de Lourdes Soares & Simon
Mayo in 2001. I think that the list on the IAS site has not been
updated since 1998-99. It seems that no new Philodendron species was
published in 1999 but the ones published in 2000 do not appear on
this list, such as P. flumineum, P. mayoi and P. venustifoliatum ...

With best regards,

David
