Hi Aroidophiles,

I suspect the frequency of Titan's doing their thing has reduced the notification rate I've come across here of late, but nonetheless it's still pretty exciting to see another in the flesh!

I dropped past today and nabbed a pic (posted on G+) so opening can't be too far away now. The inside word is growth is averaging around 10cm per 24hrs and the sheaths have begun to part when I saw it today.

Always nice to have another one of these terrific plants show us just how happy it is!

Let me know if you'd like more updates as it progresses!

2.61m from soil to tip, so no world record breaker, but up there in good company - the word on the street says the record holders are measured inc the sub-soil measure to the top of the tuber... can anyone confirm or deny this for me?

I agree Bill - pretty sure the crew at the RBGM will wait til this one has died off (or well on the way) and then take a careful measurement. Begs the question though, given the tuber all but disintegrates when in leaf, does anyone know if how much reduction there typically is when these guys flower? Guess I'll hassle the staff for a weigh in result when all's said and done!

the Guinnesworld record mentiones that the inflorescence was measured from the tip of the bloom to the top of the tuber:

Thanks for sharing your titan bloom with all of us! and I agree - somehow I think I'll never quite get over the pleasure of one of these guys doing its thing as J stated in the email stream below. I have been the proud care taker of the five that bloomed at Missouri Botanical Garden and just like my children none of them are totally alike or totally predictable.

I think I counted 7 for Wisconsin/ Madison, but I know Huntington has had a lot, also Bonn.

The flowerings used to be so rare, I remember some friends and I flew to Florida to see Mr. Stinky bloom in 2001 (awesome!) and how shocked I was to hear about Big Bucky blooming in my home state of Wisconsin only a month later. We got a laugh about that, could have saved some money and stayed home.
