1. Amorphophallus` roots cycle of life question (Marcin)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear All:
Yes. all the roots die and slough off in the dry season. Dewey Fisk used to
put his small dry rhizomes in a plastic grocery baggie and put them on a
hanger in his closet during the dry season. Sometimes in a fluster to take
them out when they start to flower in in his closet.
When weather is right the bud will start to grow and the roots will shoot
out and go down and when they have a grip on the soil the roots contract and
pull the rhizome deeper into the soil. Good luck with that. Cheers and
hurrahs emoticons here.....

Dear All,
I have a question concerning cycle of life of roots of Amorphophallus
species coming from Sumatra/Java/Kalimantan. So we can often see picture for
example of A.titanum after it falls into dormancy and they are always
rootless tubers - does it mean that roots dies down always when plant is
dormant? Or it varies from species to species (still talking only about
species from the area)?
I am wonder what is your experience/knowledge about?
With regards, Martin
