  Alocasia pollination
From: Amy Schlapper <cdanielle at prodigy.net> on 1998.05.13 at 15:21:17(2111)
Hi All,
I have an Alocasia micholitziana 'Frydek' with an open flower that is
shedding pollen and an A. amazonica 'African Mask' with a flower that is
about to open. Does anyone know if it would be possible to cross these
two, or if it would be possible to self pollinate either? Are the
pistils fertile before or after the pollen is shed? How long is the
pollen viable? If there is a way or ways to get seeds from either of
these plants what would be the best thing to try? If anyone has any
information that could help me, please e-mail on or off the list which
ever you prefer, but I really would like some insight here.

Gabe: You can refrigerate pollen for a short time and it will remain
viable. Pistils are receptive from the first opening of the spathe but
are no longer receptive usually on the second day.

Hello all. I'm new to the list and just wondering
if anyone can point me towards any good articles/sites with info on alocasia
pollination. I have a few different species in bloom and want to find out if
pollen can be saved for any length of time and just any tips or tricks. Thanks
in advance, Jeremy
