Planting seedlings
|
From: Susan Cooper coops at execpc.com> on 2001.05.09 at 02:27:28(6395)
Hello all,
(Especially Mr. Stinky, now taller than me!)
I received some Amorphophallus seedlings- about 8" (20cm) in height. They
had their roots in moist paper toweling and were in plastic bags. They
arrived pretty damaged- some had their tops "mushed" right off.
My question is: Before planting, is there something I can do to help these
poor babies?
| +More |
The tiny tubers (tuberettes??) were wet for a week- that can't be good for
them.
Would a captan or rootone dusting help before planting? Or would that be
too toxic for the roots?
Thanks for any suggestions!
Susan

In spite of the hokey advertising on the label... Use a product called
"SuperThrive".... Soak the seedlings for about 20 min. in a 5 drop per qt.
solution... Stronger than the lable says... but, it will not hurt....

Hi Susan (who is not as tall as the Titan). If the tubers are healthily
firm would it be helpful with their problem to put them in the dark in the
airing cupboard to dry out and recover and then try again? I wouldn't
recommend rootone for a Skippy Barbie, Captan. The tubers go to sleep in
Winter. Perhaps we'll have Spath Fever then?

Seriously! Yes!!!!
There is a ver inexpensive common health food product called "Citricidal"
(Grapefruit Seed Extract) about which best selling Books have been written.
It is reputed to be a Panacea for animal ills from Colds almost to Ebola.
In my incessant wonderings it occurs to me that it might be a cidal or a
discourager for anything which likes plants as hosts. For non-valuable
plants could it be worth experiments? If successful, maybe sell
Agrochemicals and get shares in Citrus?

Dewey,
since "SuperThrive" is not known here in Germany.....
Could you tell what "SuperThrive" is? Fungicide? Growth regulator? or something
else?
| +More |
Could you further tell what the active ingredient of "SuperThrive" is and what
is the concentration of the active ingredient?
Thanks,
Bernhard.

The formula of SuperThrive is a secret... but... it is a formulation of
vitamins and hormones... That is all the maker will say. It is not a
Fungicide, Growth regulator, or a fertilizer.... But, it really works.
Go to www.superthrive.com....... See what you can find out... I have not
checked it out as yet...
