Hello, IAS Members,

The June 2009 issue of the IAS Newsletter is now ready tobe downloaded (thank you, Albert!). You should have received an email and linkto the Newsletter and it can even be viewed in a PDF format.

This issue is really spectacular due to the many greatarticles that were submitted! Peter Boyce and Wong Sin Yeng have given us a fascinatinglook at the beautiful aroids of the west Sarawaklimestone complete with many color images. Dr. Josef Bogner has written anobituary on the incredible life’s work of Dr. Alfred Graf. AlbertHuntington has given an account of a group of aroiders that have formed a WestCoast Chapter of the IAS in California…andthere is more! You will have to take a look at it.

Please enjoy this copy of the IAS Newsletter and be thinkingabout what you would like to submit for the August issue!

Best wishes,

Carla

Dear Carla and All,

This is one of the best IAS Newsletters ever!

Very beautiful and informative. I especially loved the tribute

to Dr. Graf and the west Sarawak article.

Spectacular job! Thank you very much.

Hello, IAS Members,

If you have not already received your electronic June IAS
Newsletter (Issue 2 for 2010) via email, you should be receiving it very soon. There
are many interesting articles in this issue including a very complete report on
the 2nd MidAmerica IAS Chapter Meeting that was held in April at the
Missouri Botanical
Garden in St. Louis.
Also of note, aroid botanist, Simon Mayo, has recently retired from Kew Gardens.
In A Closer Look, you will be
introduced to three up and coming aroiders from different countries. We are all
saddened to learn of the death of aroider, Joe Wright, and John Banta pays
tribute to him in this issue. Thanks to everyone that contributed to the June
Newsletter and for those folks behind the scenes.

I am encouraging all of you to consider submitting
something for the IAS Newsletter. You can write about growing plants, trips
that you have taken and the aroids that you observed, tips that you want to
share about how you manage your plants, aroid recipes, books that you have run
across that deal with aroids–the possibilities are endless. Please think
about what you would like to share with your fellow aroid enthusiasts,
including your spectacular and diverse aroid color photos. This is your forum
and your words and contributions are most welcome and genuinely needed.

Submissions for the August IAS Newsletter would need to be
received by July 15. I really hope to hear from you soon.

Many thanks and best wishes,

Carla Kostelac

Hello, IAS Members,

Thanks to the beautiful Caladium
photos and article from LariAnn Garner as well as Tom
Croat’s photo-studded field log to the Guianas, the
June IAS Newsletter is colorful indeed! You may have already received it in
your email. Lester Kallus has written a wonderful article about packing plants,
complete with photos illustrating each step. This will be helpful when you want
to pack up the plants that you purchase at the IAS Show in Miami (September 17-18, 2011)! Lester hopes
to have a packing table at the Show for this purpose which is a fantastic idea.
There are also other interesting articles and photos in the Newsletter so
please check them out. Many thanks to everyone that contributed to this issue
and also those behind the scenes whose work made this possible.

If you missed contributing to this issue, please consider submitting
an article to the August IAS Newsletter. The deadline for that issue will be
July 15 so there is plenty of time to write an article, collect some photos and
let fellow aroiders know your growing tips and interests or tell them about
some exciting places that you have visited. I hope to hear from you in the next
several weeks. Please remember that your contributions are what make the IAS
Newsletter.

Thanks and best wishes,

Carla Kostelac
