Hello Aroiders,

In his webpage on Colocasia esculenta in his "The Exotic Rainforest" website, the late Steve Lucas pointed out that "A new paper is now in the process of being published that will establish that Colocasia antiquorum is a unique species. Has the mentioned paper been published yet?

Hi George,

I think Steve may have got the wrong end of the stick - the problem isn't so much that antiquorum is a unique species but that it cannot be used as the name for aunique species - he next available name for which is fontanesii.

Peter,

Thanks for the info! So Colocasia esculenta var. antiquorum (Schott) Hubb. & Rehder and Colocasia antiquorum Schott are now Colocasia fontanesii Schott, am I right? If so, where can I find the reference?

George,

Yes, correct.

Sadly, no reference as yet - Bogner is working on this!

Hi everyone!  Hope you're all doing very well.  I just want to make sure I have this right regarding the name of this Colocasia.    Does that mean that Colocasia Illustris & Black Beauty should be labeled Colocasia fontanesii var. Illustris   &   C. fontanesii var. Black Beauty?   I know it's a goofy question, I just want to make sure I'm understanding correctly. : )
Are there any of the Colocasias that are antiquorum, or is antiquorum an obsolete/invalid name?
Is C. Black Beauty is a sport or a hybrid of C. Illustris?

Thanks and I hope y'all have a wonderful week!

                                                         Sherry
