I think many of us are still out here, but it’s my impression that “newsgroups” have become victims of other internet venues, such as Facebook. There are subgroups on FB for many of the plants which used to have their own newsgroups, in which information was exchanged mainly by text (and before high speed internet, some even restricted the posting of photos). The new groups have become mainly place for people to post photos of their plants and perhaps ask an occasional question. This is all well and good, but truthfully, I miss the more personal conversations with the likes of Wilbert Hetterscheid, Dewey Fisk, Dr. Croat, and others too numerous to mention.
The Facebook group is: Planet Aroid, at. https://www.facebook.com/groups/planetaroid/?ref=bookmarks

However a more comprehensive is: The International Aroid Society at http://www.aroid.org/society/

And, of course, with the expansion of the internet, more specialized has become available for many of the plants we know and love.

That was a very well put description of the groups and their decline. I am still on a couple of yahoo parrot groups but there aren't many left. I didn't know about the facebook groups and did join them, so I really appreciate that information as well.

The Silent Seed is an amazing place! I visited, thank you.

Hi All,

For a time sites like Facebook became a bigger thing than

lists (like this one), and forums as well, some of those replaced by

Reddit.

Thank you Jill, for the kind words!

Ugh... it looks like everything is going down the facebook hole. I don't use FB - I dislike it very much. Yes, it's a good tool, but it's way too busy and cluttered for my liking. Not to mention as above, I, too, miss the actual interaction between individuals as we are doing here.

Dear Don: Thanks for your imput. I am afraid that I am guilty of failing to keep up with the postings and requests but I try to help when specifically asked. Facebook often sends you messages
that seem very specific and personal but when I open them I see not connected to me personally at all. So that discourages me to respond.

On FB, if you have your settings to receive notifications from groups, and you respond to a posting, you'll get an email every time someone else posts after you. To avoid this, make your comment, then go to the top of that comment and look for the 3 little dots on the right hand side. Click on that and then click on "turn off notifications for this post". Really cuts down on those email notifications!

PS I am still here too.
