From: "Alistair Hay" <ajmhay at hotmail.com> on 2004.08.20 at 20:45:41(12026) If this is the plant I think it is (from Julius' description of looking like water hyacinth), it is Homalomena expedita, from Sarawak. It grows in fresh or brackish water in full sun, with the leaves emersed. It is stoloniferous and colony forming, and I would say has weed potential in wetland areas. It flowers infrequently, and unlike most asiatic homalomenas has solitary rather than clustered inflorescences.
