  [Aroid-l] CATE Araceae sites
From: S.Mayo at kew.org (Simon Mayo) on 2008.01.10 at 10:52:37(16940)
Dear All,

As part of the CATE-araceae project (Creating A Taxonomic E-science, www.cate-araceae.org), we have created a forum site specifically for the discussion of Araceae taxonomy. This site, called Araceae Network, is built on Drupal software, which makes it easier for people to interact with it and create their own spaces for information and discussion. We hope to stimulate discussion within the Araceae taxonomic community that will lead eventually to agreement on such common issues as descriptive terminology and species circumscriptions and this in turn will form the basis for consensus decisions about the taxonomy that evolves as a community project on the CATE-araceae site.

Our aim and ambition is to provide extra facilities to help aroid taxonomists towards fruitful joint discussion and activity online in building a consensus taxonomy of Araceae on the CATE site. The CATE sites are intended to complement the great work being done by http://www.aroid.org/ and AroidL over many years, which represent the whole community of aroiders.

If you are interested, we welcome you to register with us at www.scratchpad.cate-araceae.org where you can develop your own user space and bibliography, contact details and blog. You can participate in current forum discussions such as the 'setup of the CATE site' or more general forums such as a 'discussion on character measurements'. You can also create forums on your own areas of special interest and start up discussions between others in your community.

There will soon be the option to attach documents and images to your forum comments and at the moment you can upload images into the image gallery.

Once you have registered, if you would like to upload images and add new forums, please contact a.haigh at kew.org and she will be able to activate your account with a contributor status and provide support and advice.

Best wishes to everybody for a very Happy New Year.

Luci Lay, Laura Reynolds, Anna Haigh, Simon Mayo
