I went to FTG at 4:30p.m.EDT today. The inflorescense did not grow at
all
through the day so does seem to have matured vertically! The outer

sheaths
which covered it as it came up through the soil had completely dropped
away
from the base of the spathe during the earlier part of the day and the
spathe
definitely has a more "swollen" appearance . It is getting almost a
ruffled look
to it.
A warning to any potential visitors----especially during the first 8
hours after
the inflorescense is fully open----Craig Allen and the security guard
who is on
duty to keep the touchers away will have gas masks for their own
protection.
If you have one----bring it!!!
There will be crews from at least 7 TV stations plus newspapers, and
magazines
there this weekend----mucho publicity for the Garden,IAS, and aroids in
general.
Sadly, Julius, the second plant you had hopes for is not blooming this
summer.
Think what the potential is for next year though!!!
Susan
