back from brazil (and worsleya)

From: Piabinha at aol.com on 1999.05.13 at 03:14:25(3351) dear aroiders, i'm back from brazil. it was truly a wonderful 3-weeks, running around the atlantic rainforest collecting gesneriads. but we also got to see lots of aroids, mostly philodendrons and anthuriums. the highlight of this trip was certainly visiting the botanical garden and sitio burle marx in rio. at the botanic gardens, they have a nice anthurium collection, which unfortunately is not labeled. at burle marx, the highlight was to see those 20 ft tall Montrichardias. +More in the "restinga" (sandy dunes) outside rio, i collected a small anthurium growing in sand. does anyone know what species it might be? as for Worsleya, we didn't get to the hills where they grow. but a friend in sao paulo grows it in his greenhouse. all i can report is that in 20 years, it never bloomed. tsuh yang chen, nyc
