Alloschemone: Rare Amazonian Climber

Alloschemone is a small genus of evergreen, root-climbing aroids endemic to the Amazon basin of Brazil and Bolivia. Its two extremely rare species are set apart by their unilocular ovaries and distinctive floral and vascular anatomy, reflecting a complex taxonomic history within the Monstereae tribe.
