The Diversity and Distribution of Aroids (Araceae) in Mt. Makiling, Philippines

Purpose:

To document the diversity and distribution of aroids in Mt. Makiling, one of the Philippines' most important biodiversity hotspots, while investigating the genetic diversity and population structure of Amorphophallus longispathaceus. Through field surveys, specimen documentation, and genetic analyses, the project aims to improve our understanding of species diversity, distribution patterns, and the conservation status of native Philippine aroids.

Impact:

This research will generate essential baseline data on the diversity, distribution, and genetic variation of aroids in an underexplored region of the Philippines. The findings will support conservation planning, habitat management, and future research while providing valuable insights into the evolution and conservation of Amorphophallus longispathaceus. By improving knowledge of native aroid diversity and identifying populations of conservation importance, the project also has the potential to contribute to the sustainable use of native plant resources and future food security initiatives.
