Arophyton: Madagascar’s Seasonal Tuber Aroids

Arophyton is a genus of seven tuberous and rhizomatous aroid species endemic to northeast Madagascar. These geophytic plants retreat to underground tubers or rhizomes during the dry season and sprout fresh foliage and inflorescences with the return of rains, illustrating unique survival strategies in seasonally dry forests.
