Gearum: Brazil’s Monotypic Aroid

Gearum is a monotypic genus of flowering plants in the Araceae family, containing only Gearum brasiliense, endemic to the seasonally dry Cerrado of central Brazil. It is a rhizomatous geophyte producing ground-level inflorescences that are primarily pollinated by scarab beetles (Cyclocephala celata).
